Psyche, The Betrayal of Eros

This sculpture is carved from a piece of marble from Carrera region of Italy. She was completed in summer 2016. It is based upon an image I know well depicting the moment, in Greek Mythology, when psyche had betrayed her love Eros and laments. Psyche’s betrayal was not done out of thoughtlessness or greed; it springs from her urge to know her partner.

This myth has been told many times in films, books and art since it was written down in 2 AD by Lucius Apuleius Madaurensis in the poem Metamorphoses.

Psyche is an unexampled work of British contemporary sculpture, her tactile and flowing form transforms the space she inhabits.
