Description
Hand carved from Silver Birch (Betula Pendula) – this sculpture highlights the first stages of the decaying process in dead wood. The section of branch union was taken from a downed tree in West London. The wood was left for 1 year to allow the decay process to start to affect the outer structure. The section was then brought inside to arrest this process, then the wood was forced dried. The carving process was then undertaken, to encapsulate the beauty of death and decay.
